Eight European countries have partnered up to raise awareness on internet domains on Facebook and they have developed a game Domain Star which allows people to perform whois queries on Facebook using domain names in a playful way. Participating Countries to the application: Serbia (RNIDS), Austria (NIC.AT), France (AFNIC), Germany (DENIC), Poland (NASK), Finland (FICORA), Slovenia (ARNES) and Montenegro (Domen).
This new Facebook application (http://apps.facebook.com/domainstar) tells you whether your first and last name is still available as domain name in the selected country as well as providing a link with where to register it.
You can of course as well query any keyword as domain name and find out if it is free or not. Use the picture tool for sending interactive domain greetings to your friends and feel free to recommend funny domain names to them. Participating in the domain quiz will bring you points on your way to becoming a domain star.
Other features of the application include: a general knowledge quiz with a focus on the Internet and domains as well as a tool where you can play with the visual aspect of a domain name seeing how your domain might look on different backgrounds and pictures. Points can be earned on many parts of the application and then ranked against your friends and global users.

New procedure for .BE transfers and trades

The Belgian registry dns.be for .BE domains has changed the procedures for transfers and trades. A transfer code is now required. The procedures in a nutshell:
Transfer: start the transfer in the usual way, whether you have the transfer code or not. After transfer initiation, dns.be will send an e-mail to the registrant, containing a link and a transfer code. After the registrant has entered the code at the dns.be website, the transfer will be completed within 30 minutes.
Trade: start the trade in the usual way. If no transfer code has been entered, dns.be will send the code to the registrant. After you have obtained the code from the registrant (your client), you can use it to restart the trade.

Effective January 6, 2010, the .CN registry stopped accepting new registrations from overseas registrars.
According to information from foreign domain name registration service providers, China Internet Network Information Center has required these providers to suspend new registrations for .CN domain names.
Irist.com, revealed that it has been notified by CNNIC that effective from January 6, 2010, no overseas application for .CN will be accepted until further notice from the registry.
However, this change only applies to new .CN registrations. Renewal and registrar transfer requests are not affected.

On July 8, 2006, the Registry for National Internet Domain of Serbia – RNIDS was founded by the Ministry of Science and a group of 34 organizations interested in the domain.
